How this estimate works
Carpet ordered from a roll is a cutting plan, not merely room area divided by roll area. Each room needs an integer number of strips. A room that is slightly wider than one usable roll width requires a second strip even when its square footage looks close to a single width. The tool counts each room separately because a strip left over from one room may have the wrong dimensions or pile direction for another.
Enter the usable width after any manufacturer edge and seam losses. Add a width allowance per room for wall irregularity, then add an end allowance to every strip cut. The result is a sum of linear strip lengths. In US mode it is shown in linear yards; in metric mode it is shown in linear metres. It is not a price quote and it does not convert directly into supplier billed square yards.
Choose the length and width orientation before entering a room. A 90-degree rotation can change strip count, but rotation can also change pile direction and seam appearance. Pattern repeat, seam placement, stair work, doorway continuity, and stock length may add material. Confirm a cut diagram with the retailer or installer before ordering.
Keep a copy of your measurements and the product information used. Recheck both before ordering, especially after a layout or supplier change.
